Horses teaching managers the importance of communication, trust and respect

Business has been through incredible change and continues to become more complex. Over the past ten years we have seen everything from Total Quality Management to Re- Sizing and Re-Structuring as tools for changing cultures. However, no matter what tool your company uses to lead with, it is nothing without communication, and organisations that lack communication often end up with low levels of respect and trust.

Classes
The goal to changing organisational culture or focus, (particularly businesses who face change), is to “up the ante” on communication and view it as a critical discipline to the overall strategy.

The horse shows that if you are disciplined and follow a structure for communication that it will choose to trust and respect you. By understanding a horse’s communication system your staff will cause a horse to accept them as a leader (the moment of Join Up). It’s something anyone can do, and it’s a powerful moment for anyone to have such a majestic and gentle animal quietly walk up behind them, touch their shoulder and choose to be with them. Throughout the course, participants will use the horse’s communication to demonstrate the need to go back to basics in our working lives, strive hard to be disciplined communicators, and the importance of earning the trust and respect of the people we work with in an effort to lead in an organisation.
Across the two days the team will observe and work with horses to demonstrate the course elements. They will learn the language of horses we call Equus and will be given the opportunity to communicate with a horse, and experience the moment of Join Up which will reinforce the important elements of the course.

What Is Join Up?
Join Up is the moment in which a person successfully communicates with a horse and causes the horse to trust the person enough to be its leader. The horse demonstrates this by walking up to the participant, placing its nose on their shoulder and then following them around the round pen. The moment is highly emotional and reinforces the importance of trust in any working relationship.
