Course details: On this day you have the chance to visit us and get a short introduction to Monty Roberts Join-Up methods. Learn about the course program available for everybody interested in learning these amazing non-violent methods. Enjoy a live demonstration of Join-Up by certified Monty Roberts’s instructor Anna Kerckhoff de Sacchi and see with your own eyes how the communication between horses and humans works which gives the foundation for trust and cooperation. You will have the chance to talk to Anna and ask any questions you may have. Join-Up demonstration Pricing free This 1-day course is a wonderful opportunity for all of you who would like to familiarize yourselves with horses as a completely new experience or to refresh your memory if it has been a while since you have been in close contact with a horse.During this course, we will show you how to approach a horse safely, how to become comfortable around these beautiful creatures in the pasture and in the stall, as well as how to groom and tack-up properly. You will be introduced to working with the patented Dually™ halter to show you how to apply Monty's force-free training concepts on the ground while learning how to lead a horse correctly. This is an excellent chance to become more comfortable around horses prior to signing-up for one of our Join-Up & Follow-Up courses or the Monty Roberts Introductory Course. As a student of this course you will be familiarized with the first steps of Monty Roberts’ Join-Up® process which teaches humans to communicate with horses in their own natural language. You will learn the foundation of horse psychology and the Join-Up methods, both in the roundpen and outside. We will practice using our body consciously to communicate with horses and to analyze and understand the horses’ reactions. Through the use of the correct gestures and signals you will gain a trust based relationship with horses, which is valuable for every work with horses. Based on this cooperation you will achieve better training results, no matter in which discipline. You will have an opportunity to learn about Monty's concepts through lecture, discussion, video and hands-on round pen exercises. We will also spend sufficient time to practice the training with the Dually halter and long lining with double lines. The Foundation Join-Up® and Follow-Up Course™ is a prerequisite to participate in the Follow-Up™ Course. Portugal: May 12-16, 2008 July 23-27, 2008 October 7-11, 2008 JOIN-UP® COURSE Pricing Portugal: €650 with own horse (plus boarding) €850 with rented horse Observers: €50/day The Follow-Up Course is a 6-day course to further deepen your knowledge and skills in working with the Monty Roberts methods. The prerequisite for this course is the successful participation of the Join-Up© Course. The course offers practical lectures in horse psychology and a strong emphasis on practical, hands-on experience. We will begin to practice our learned skills in Join-Up, Dually halter work, long lining, herding exercises and loading with younger and more challenging horses. Furthermore will we introduce new practices, such as desensitizing horses and working on certain problems. Together with the Join-Up® this course can be taken to work towards the Introductory course certificate (please see Introductory course modular for more information). May 12-16, 2008 July 23-27, 2008 October 13-17, 2008 €750 with own horse (plus boarding) €950 with rented horse Observers: €50/day The Introductory Course is the first step to gain an in-depth understanding of Monty's concepts. Students from various equine backgrounds are welcome to take part, as there are no prerequisites for this course. To those of you with little or no horse knowledge, we recommend the participation in the Horsemanship 1.0.1. class prior to this course. The Introductory Course is designed to provide you with a well-rounded knowledge in general horsemanship such as the basics in horse performance, feeding and nutrition with a strong emphasis on horse psychology. As the foundation of Monty's work, and a prerequisite for the Advanced course at the Monty Roberts Equestrian Academy in California, you will be learning the method of Join-Up® as it relates to various environments. You will have the opportunity to build your skills in Dually™ halter work, long lining, herding exercises and loading. This 2-week course starts at the Learning Center and offers practical lectures in horse psychology and a strong emphasis on practical, hands-on experience. After the 2-week course, students will study further theory in horsemanship via online learning. Furthermore, students will complete several months of a field study at home and submit videotapes of their work bi-monthly for evaluation. To receive a certificate of the Introductory Course you will return for written and practical exams. After successful completion of the exams, students will receive the certificate as a graduate of the “Monty Roberts Introductory course”. This certificate allows them to go on to the next level, the Advanced course at the Monty Roberts Equestrian Academy in California and is therefore the first step for a professional career in Monty’s methods. May 12-23, 2008 July 23– August 3, 2008 October 7-18, 2008 Monty RobertsIntroductory Course Pricing €2.900 with own horse (plus boarding) €3.300 with rented horse (This includes the two weeks course, the distance-learning program, the video evaluation of the field study, and the written and practical exams after the field study) You can also attend the Monty Roberts Introductory course in a modular form. The training begins at Monty Roberts Learning Center Portugal where you attend two courses: Join-Up course and the Follow-Up course. These courses consist of hands-on experience as well as theories in horse psychology. Following these two courses you will complete several months of online learning modules and field study (submitted via videotape every other month). It is during the field study period that you learn about horse performance, breeding, feeding and nutrition through a distance-learning program. Then you will return for written and practical exams to the Monty Roberts Learning Center Portugal, at the successful completion of which you will graduate from the Introductory Training Program. Graduates of the Introductory course are offered the opportunity to continue their education by completing the Advanced Training Program in California and, upon personal selection by Monty, the Instructors’ Internship. Only Certified Instructors are able to teach, demonstrate and advertise their services for monetary gain. Any module can be taken on a freestanding basis and purely for pleasure and education. However, if you would like to work towards gaining the Monty Roberts Introductory course Certificate it is necessary to complete the following: JOIN-UP® Course 5 days, €650 with own horse (plus boarding), €850 with rented horse.
