Would you like to offer a course in Monty Roberts’s methods at your own place? You would organize the course, i.e. contact people, advertise, organize accommodation and/or food, organize everything around the horses, etc. Certified instructor Anna Kerckhoff de Sacchi would merely come to teach on the requested dates.
The prices are a package price to pay to Horsemanship Portugal. The more students you organize to participate in the course, the lower is the price per person. The maximum in the practical courses are 8 participants. An ideal size is 6 students for a course, so that there is more time for each person.
Further to the package prize, you would need to either provide accommodation for Anna Kerckhoff de Sacchi or pay her a close hotel. Destinations within 50km around Odemira are free of charge for her travel time. For everything that is further than 50km, we charge 30 cents/kilometer = €30/100km) for the travel. To host a course at your place you would need to provide the following:
For theory based psychology courses:
- A classroom setting with sufficient chairs and tables, with a TV and a DVD or a video player
For all practical courses:
- A classroom setting with sufficient chairs and tables, with a TV and a DVD or a video player
- An arena with safe fencing and footing (minimum 20x40m)
- A roundpen with safe fencing and footing (diameter ca. 15m). If you don’t have a roundpen, we can bring our own and set it up in the arena.
- Horses: at least one per student (Requirements: minimum 2 years old, halter broke, sound, healthy, current vaccines, stallions are only permitted on special request and after a personal discussion). If your facility has the option to accommodate other horses, students are welcome to bring their own horses as long they fulfil the above requirements. In special cases we could provide some horses for an extra fee.
Please see the following options of courses. Please note that the Join-Up/Follow-Up course could be divided in order to run it only on weekends. There are no prerequisites for the courses. Currently courses can be held in English or German. Portuguese courses will only be available next year. However, translation from English or German for Portuguese groups could be organized; please contact us for this option.
This 2-day course is a wonderful opportunity for all of you who would like to familiarize yourselves with horses as a completely new experience or to refresh your memory if it has been awhile since you have been in close contact with a horse.
During this course, we will show you how to approach a horse safely, how to become comfortable around these beautiful creatures in the pasture and in the stall, as well as how to groom and tack-up properly. You will be introduced to working with the patented Dually™ halter to show you how to apply Monty's force-free training concepts on the ground while learning how to lead a horse correctly.
You will have the opportunity to watch a Join-Up® session conducted by the instructor and see for yourself how important it is to become acquainted with the basics of horsemanship. This is an excellent chance to become more comfortable around horses prior to signing-up for one of our Join-Up & Follow-Up courses or the Monty Roberts Introductory Course.

JOIN-UP® & FOLLOW-UP™ COURSE
The Join-Up® and Follow-Up Course™ is a six-day introduction to the language of 'Equus,' the beautiful silent language of horses. As a student of this course you will be familiarized with the first steps of Monty's Join-Up® process which teaches humans to communicate with horses in their own natural language.
You will have an opportunity to learn about Monty's concepts through lecture, discussion, video and hands-on round pen exercises. You will be able to develop a trust-based relationship with your horse that will provide a valuable foundation for any equine discipline.

DUALLY™ HALTER AND TRAILER LOADING COURSE, 2 days
In this 2-day course you will learn how to work with Monty’s Dually™ halter to improve your horse’s ground manners, teach him to lead and to walk over various obstacles. The work with the Dually™ halter is the first step to train the horse to load on a trailer, which we will train on the second day of the course.

INTRODUCTION TO DOUBLE LONG-LINING, 1 day
Learn how to use the double long-lines, which is a great tool to work your horse from the ground while keeping it soft and supple in its correct anatomy.

THEORETICAL: HORSE PSYCHOLOGY: COMMUNICATION AND BEHAVIOR
This course is a short introduction into Monty’s theories as well in horse’s psychology. You will learn about the nature of the horse and how it relates to their training. You will learn how horse’s senses work and thus obtain a better understanding of their behavior. We will look at the language of horses, which Monty calls “Equus”.
This course is limited to 30 participants. For larger groups please contact us.
